Welcome to Swinton & District Excelsior Band
Based in the picturesque village of Swinton, near Malton in North Yorkshire, we have been making music since 1936. Founded by a group of passionate musicians, our band first performed during the festive season to raise funds for instruments and music—a tradition of community spirit that continues today.
Now, we are a thriving band of over 30 active members, with an additional 25+ enthusiastic learners and beginners. Our musicians range in age from primary school children to those in their 70s and 80s, all brought together by a shared love of brass music. Many of our young players go on to continue their musical journey at university and beyond, joining bands across the UK and internationally.

THE KINGS AWARD FOR VOLUNTARY SERVICES
In 2023, we were honoured to receive the prestigious King’s Award for Voluntary Service (KAVS)—the highest accolade for volunteer groups in the UK. This award celebrates the dedication of our members and volunteers, recognising our commitment to making music accessible to all.
At Swinton & District Excelsior Band, we proudly offer free membership, lessons, and instrument loans, ensuring that everyone, regardless of age or experience, has the opportunity to learn and enjoy brass music. This award is a testament to the positive impact we continue to make in our community.

🎺 We’re Recruiting – 1st Baritone Player Needed! 🎺
We are looking for a talented 1st Baritone player to join our ranks! Due to our current player moving away, we have an exciting opening for this challenging principal seat.
Our rehearsals are held at our own Bandroom in Swinton on Monday and Wednesday evenings, offering a friendly and supportive environment to grow and perform. You’ll also have the chance to be part of our exciting events, including our 90th-anniversary celebrations!
